Many have ask what I’ve been up to during the pandemic. After all…no hands-on classes, travel (anywhere), or gatherings of any kind. I don’t usually share the inner-workings of my daily efforts, but as we begin to see a glimmer of hope that this nightmare may be coming to an end, it’s time to offer a glimpse…
For nearly a year, I have been providing hand-crafted, hand-delivered meal services through my Epicurean-MEAL-Exchange. It has been THE ONLY THING I COULD DO! It has been a daunting challenge – but also a true blessing. With the GENEROUS support of my community, and a network I’ve built over 25+ years, I have been able to manage this catastrophe which has decimated the food service, hospitality and travel industries and especially those of us dedicated to culinary education. It’s not over yet…and I will still be cooking daily until further notice!
The silver-lining: In the past year, I’ve never worked harder; learned more about my profession, my suppliers, frontline service people, and myself OR had the pleasure of meeting so many amazing people, and ONLY because this happened! This year has offered many of us self-employed folks – who always work 24/7 and burn the candle at all ends – a forced-pause, that has allowed us the opportunity to full-stop, re-evaluate, re-calculate and re-emerge with a clearer sense of our purpose and goals. There has been so much worldwide pain and grief over the past 12 months. My heart hurts of all those who have lost lives and livelihoods, but although we have a huge hole to dig out of, I’m personal grateful for this time. I didn’t see it during the times we lived through, bit it is now clear as the fog has cleared.
During the past year, I have been forced (like so many other in the food service, hospitality and travel industries) to re-invent (while flipping, back-sliding, jumping through hoops, and somersaulting all the way); developed an online presence with Epicurean-GLOBAL-Exchange, and have just launched my NEW Epicurean Exchange Culinary Travel, and soon my revamped Epicurean Exchange Culinary Education websites!
I’m looking forward to the future as we all – together – slowly and safely emerge from the our shared darkness. STAY TUNED…
